Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a thin plastic coating that is painted on the chewing surface of the teeth (permanent first and second molars as well as premolars) to help prevent tooth decay. The sealant is bonded into the groves of the teeth forming a protective coating on the chewing surface of the teeth. No anesthesia is required for the sealant procedure. Sealants could last 5 to 10 years depending on your diet. If the tooth has a restoration than a dental sealant is not recommended. Insurance considers a sealant a preventive procedure and will pay at a preventive rate (usually 100% depending on your insurance plan)
