Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride and Dental Health

Fluoride is a natural mineral that builds strong teeth and helps to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride helps the enamel (the outer layer that protects the tooth) fight bacteria that causes tooth decay.

How much Fluoride do you need

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a professional fluoride treatment at your dental office every 3,6, or 12 months depending on your oral health and if you are at high risk for tooth decay.

The following could put you at high risk for tooth decay

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Dry mouth
  • Poor diet
  • Lack of dental care
  • Existing restorations (Fillings or crowns)
  • Excessive alcohol or drug use

What type of fluoride do we use in our office?

Varnish which is a highly concentrated fluoride that is applied to the tooth’s surface after your doctors exam. You are able to eat and drink (avoid hot liquids) after the fluoride is applied.
